Mechanical Design Engineer (Automated Solutions)

Our client, a leader in its field, specializing in the design, manufacturing, and installation of automated equipment for the manufacturing sector, is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer.

Nature of position

Reporting to the president, your mandate will be to ensure that the company provides cost-effective, best-in-class solutions to its clients. The scope includes mechanical engineering work and the application of the hull system. You will be responsible for creating competitive engineering solutions to meet customer specifications and requirements. This includes selecting the appropriate combination of design, services, and top-quality materials that will deliver the greatest value to the client while supporting the company’s overall business objectives. In this role, you will be tasked with:

  • Design machines/equipment in compliance with applicable international standards and customer requirements in 3D ;
  • Carry out project assignments within defined targets while meeting customer expectations ;
  • Prepare all production and installation documentation ;
  • Produce documentation for equipment maintenance and operation intended for customer use ;
  • Responsible for communicating information to production for equipment manufacturing and ensuring they have all necessary support to successfully fabricate the equipment ;
  • Support other members of the mechanical engineering team ;
  • Interact with procurement to ensure the acquisition of the correct items according to specifications and in a timely manner for proposal preparation ;
  • Assist the procurement team in supplier selection ;
  • Adopt processes and tools to improve efficiency ;
  • Help resolve technical issues that may arise during project execution ;
  • Communicate with clients as needed in collaboration with the sales and project teams ;
  • Support the sales team in preparing bids ;
  • Participate in defining the project execution plan and cost estimation during the quoting phase ;
  • Collaborate with the sales team to provide the required expertise for proposed client solutions ;
  • Apply process expertise and solution knowledge when preparing technical and economic proposals, considering the most cost-effective solutions to meet client needs and the company’s sales strategy ;
  • Support the sales team in all technical/commercial aspects during customer negotiations and deal closure ;
  • Perform any other tasks consistent with your duties.

Required qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering training ;
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) ;
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience;
  • Experience in designing automated and/or manufacturing equipment and/or robotic cells ;
  • Proficiency in a 3D parametric design software such as SolidWorks ;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in both French and English (proficiency in English is important for this position as it facilitates communication with a diverse range of business partners, whether national or international).
