Our client, a company specializing in the development and manufacturing of optical solutions (AMLCD displays, backlights, EMI filtering, etc.) for military and defense markets, aerospace, premium medical equipment, and the industrial sector, is currently seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer (Hardware).
Nature of position
Reporting to the Engineering Director, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to the development and production of customized displays and associated products. You will actively contribute to new design development during the development phases and engage in related activities such as prototype monitoring, verification testing, troubleshooting, test setup, qualification testing, documentation, and more. You will also contribute to the development of design processes, test strategies, and new technologies in alignment with the business unit's product roadmap. Additionally, you will provide hardware support for product introduction into manufacturing and for ongoing production. Your responsibilities will include:
- Design and document the electronic components of display products;
- Define hardware architectures, design and develop electronic circuits and printed circuit board (PCB) layouts, develop appropriate verification and validation approaches, and perform verification activities;
- Generate or modify VHDL code for custom FPGA functionality;
- Generate or modify C code for embedded microcontroller-based circuits;
- Provide technical solutions for the selection of electronic components for new and existing products;
- Design and document an electronic test environment for the display business unit;
- Work with suppliers and provide technical guidance for the manufacturing of circuit assemblies;
- Identify and resolve hardware issues related to component obsolescence and manufacturability of display product components;
- Manufacture prototypes, cables, and test devices;
- Create technical documentation and user manuals;
- Assign part numbers for drawings, documents, and generate the Bill of Materials (BOM);
- Prepare, integrate, and process Engineering Change Orders (ECO);
- Support and troubleshoot technical issues related to customer returns (RMA);
- Perform analyses, validation/verification tests, and monitor prototypes;
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of professionals;
- Provide technical support to the marketing team (technical solutions, discussions with external clients, demo units, etc.);
- Support new product introduction (NPI) and ongoing production;
- Participate in R&D development projects;
- Perform any other tasks compatible with your responsibilities.
Required qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or other relevant fields;
- Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience;
- Experience in analog/digital circuit design, power supply, microcontrollers, and debugging tools;
- Expertise in hardware architecture for electronic systems and integrated HMI applications;
- Experience in analyzing safety and reliability requirements;
- Proficiency with basic electronic test equipment such as power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, function generators, etc.;
- Proficiency with computer tools (Windows, Microsoft Office);
- Bilingual (French and English): spoken and written (proficiency in English is essential for effective collaboration with teams and clients);
- Availability for occasional travel;
- Results-oriented with the ability to work under pressure;
- Experience with FPGA (VHDL) and programming languages (C/C++); knowledge of Python is an asset;
- Experience in design and prototyping, including soldering, using prototyping tools, and designing LCD displays (character/graphic, monochrome/color) is an asset;
- Knowledge of avionics certification processes such as HW development DO-254 and SW DO-178, as well as military and aerospace standards (RTCA/DO-160, MIL-STD-810, and MIL-STD-461) is an asset;
- Proficiency with design software such as Altium Designer and Mentor PADS Schematic and Layout is an asset.
