Director of Civil and Water Engineering Department

Our client, a multinational professional services firm in engineering present in 35 countries, provides design, planning, and project management services to a diverse clientele. As an organization dedicated to sustainable development, it brings together a collective of designers, advisors, and experts working on a global scale. Currently, our client is seeking a Director to lead its Civil and Water Engineering Department.

Nature of position

In collaboration with the Montreal team, your primary mandate will be to oversee project planning and delivery, resource allocation, staff development and supervision, as well as the management and preparation of service proposals. In this role, you will also be responsible for ensuring the growth of the civil engineering team. To this end, you will:

  • Manage bid dossiers for projects.
  • Lead the technical aspects of service proposals in civil and water engineering.
  • Oversee the technical aspects of the design and completion of civil and water engineering projects.
  • Supervise the quality of the work performed by the civil and water engineering team.
  • Mentor team members to foster their growth and development, and promote learning from both successes and challenges within the group.
  • Promote effective collaboration between different groups and disciplines at local, regional, and international levels.
  • Establish and maintain healthy and sustainable relationships with our key current and future clients and partners.
  • Ensure the commercial success and efficient delivery/completion of projects—or parts of projects—undertaken by the civil and water engineering team.
  • Proactively collaborate with clients and contractors to implement high-quality, cost-effective, and technically efficient solutions.
  • Implement processes and foster a culture that promotes achieving quality results.
  • Perform any other duties compatible with your functions.

Required qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering.
  • Bilingualism (French and English, both spoken and written) is required as you will be working closely with the teams in Toronto and New York.
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
  • 10 years of experience in the design and management of civil and water engineering projects.
  • 5 years of experience leading an engineering team (an asset).
  • Business development experience (an asset).
  • roven experience in drafting technical service proposals.
  • Experience in linear infrastructure and the development of master plans for stormwater management.
  • Commercial and financial acumen, with the ability to develop fee proposals.
  • Ability to effectively establish and manage priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
