Corporate Sustainability Specialist

Our client, a leading global manufacturer of technological materials and specialty chemicals, is currently seeking a Sustainability Specialist for their headquarters in the Montreal area.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the Corporate Director of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), your primary role will be to develop and oversee environmental, social, and governance (ESG) policies and procedures. You will review and evaluate proposed actions to ensure they are socially and environmentally sustainable and adhere to internationally recognized best practices. You will also assist in defining the ESG strategy. In this capacity, your responsibilities will include:

  • Participating in the preparation of the sustainability report;
  • Supporting engineering departments on environmental improvement projects such as water treatment, gas emissions, and hazardous solid waste;
  • Supporting the integration of the supply chain into the overall sustainability project;
  • Keeping up to date with regulatory developments regarding ESG / CSRD / ISSB / Green Deal / CSDDD standards;
  • Assisting the product management advisor in life cycle analyses;
  • Developing climate change analyses and supporting the implementation of necessary corrective actions;
  • Assisting the corporate HSE director in developing action plans for sustainable development;
  • Participating in environmental assessments required as part of the due diligence process;
  • Supporting decarbonization and energy optimization initiatives;
  • Collaborating with the corporate HSE manager on progress made in establishing environmental performance indicators, including carbon footprint indicators;
  • Participating in the company's environmental audit program;
  • Coordinating and monitoring the audit and non-compliance plan related to sustainability;
  • Providing training and technical support for plant representatives;
  • Working closely with the procurement team to ensure sustainable purchasing practices;
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and interested parties;
  • Managing various ad-hoc projects related to your functions.

Required qualification

  • University degree in chemistry, engineering, environmental management, or any other relevant education, or a combination of work experiences deemed pertinent;
  • Relevant experience (1-3 years) in sustainability, environmental management, or corporate social responsibility initiatives;
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and public policies related to sustainable development;
  • Advanced skills in analysis and problem-solving related to sustainability, including the ability to conduct environmental and social impact assessments;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a focus on results and problem-solving;
  • Availability for occasional travel to various company sites (primarily in the U.S. and Germany).
