8 signs you have a bad boss

While being a good boss is harder than it looks, you have to admit that some people don't have what it takes. Often promoted because of their performance as an employee, these bad bosses have no leadership let alone a long-term vision. If you love the company you work for, but are still thinking about quitting your job, then you probably have a bad boss.

Here are eight signs that never fail:

1. Your boss wants to be your friend at all costs

The bad boss confuses popularity with respect. But while it's easy to be loved when you're the boss, gaining respect is a whole different story. To do this, you need to be able to instill discipline when necessary, which many starters have difficulty doing.

2. Your boss is unable to delegate

To be able to delegate, you have to know how to trust. And for many bosses, it's way beyond their strength. By delegating, the bad boss feels marginalized, even replaceable, which is unbearable for him.

3. Your boss is a micro manager

Likewise, the bad boss is so controlling that he doesn't give you any leeway. If you have to report back to her for every customer you meet or every email you receive, you haven't left the hostel.

4. Your boss uses "I" rather than "we"

The bad boss likes the spotlight to be constantly on him. To achieve this, he does not hesitate to keep his subordinates in the background by, for example, taking credit for their good ideas.

5. Your boss never admits wrongs

Have you been in your job for a few years and have never seen your boss endorse a single mistake? This is a very bad sign. By admitting mistakes, the good boss sends the message to his subordinates that it is better to take risks and be wrong than to just stick to winning recipes without innovating.

6. Your boss always points the finger at others

A good boss distributes rewards in public and blames them in private. If in addition to never admitting wrongs, yours is quick to find a scapegoat whenever things go wrong, the situation is even worse since sooner or later the blame - possibly unwarranted - will fall on you.

7. Your boss is constantly in panic mode

A good boss must demonstrate that he is in control of the situation and able to deal with the unexpected. If the slightest drop in prices made by the competitor is enough to make them lose control, the stress of their employees can only increase in the long term.

8. Your boss is lying

Since the boss is meant to be a role model, one of his main qualities is to be trustworthy. However, for bad bosses, it is often better to lie rather than lose face. And since it is impossible to build trust with a boss who constantly lies to you, the best solution is often to pack your bags and go see if the grass is greener on the neighbor's house.
