8 reasons why your employees are dissatisfied at work

The start of the year is often a time of soul-searching. We take stock of the year that has just ended and we set new goals for the year that begins. And don't be surprised if the question "How am I going to improve my lot this year?" ", The main answer that comes to mind most people is" by changing jobs ".

Although the polls differ, the picture is the same on both sides of the Atlantic: people are generally unhappy at work. Indeed, 52% of Americans say they are dissatisfied with their jobs, 59% of Canadians say they don't like their jobs and 53% of Britons admit that they would gladly change jobs. In short, if you don't want your employees to seek their happiness elsewhere, you might as well improve their lot with you!

Here are 8 reasons why they may be dissatisfied at work:

1. Insufficient remuneration

You're going to anticipate this throughout the article, so you might as well start with that. While this is rarely the number one source of dissatisfaction, in the long run it can nevertheless cause stress in the personal lives of employees.

2. Lack of social ties

The higher the turnover rate, the less time employees have to bond with their colleagues and the less these bonds retain them in their work environment. In short, it's a spinning wheel. It's up to you to slow down.

3. Lack of recognition

Just like in a relationship, an employee who does not feel valued, or at least valued at its true value, may more easily be tempted to look elsewhere.

4. Little or no opportunities for advancement

It goes without saying that the higher you get in the company, the fewer the possibilities for advancement, and this is what causes employees to start looking for new opportunities outside the company.

5. Lack of challenge

For adrenaline-fueled employees, the first few months spent at a new company are filled with highlights. Unfortunately for them, the absence of new challenges is invariably synonymous with a routine that sets in and an unpleasant feeling of being stuck in the spotlight.

6. Avalanche of procedures

A major irritant for large companies, administrative procedures and paperwork can convince many to find an employer position offering more autonomy.

7. Insecurity

Let's be frank, very few employees are so loyal as to sink with the boat. If they feel insecure in the air, they will rather plan their smooth transition on their own than be the victim of a brutal layoff.

8. You

Eh yes! You, the employer reading this, are often THE number one cause of employee dissatisfaction. Why? Because even if they have good ideas, you make all the decisions yourself. Would they like to be consulted more often? To ask the question, is to answer it…

And if it was your employees who forwarded this article to you, then we might be trying to send you a message! ;)
