5 behaviors to avoid at all costs in a job interview

5 behaviors to avoid at all costs in a job interview

When you read the job posting, you had a hard time believing it: this job finally seems like the one for you! If you want the chance to land that dream job, avoid these mistakes that might keep you from getting there.

Criticize his former bosses

Even if your former boss was a tyrannical good-for-nothing, keep your secrets on the subject for those close to you. If you speak against your former employers, the recruiter will think you will probably do the same with them. No one wants to hire someone who risks messing up their business with the first misunderstanding.

Make a bad first impression

You only have seconds to make a good impression on the recruiter. Don't ruin your chances by showing up late (and if you can't, then advise!) Or dressing as if you are about to hit the beach or go flirting. Wear comfortable and clean clothes. You don't have to dress up like you're going to a wedding either. Also, avoid talking to the recruiter, being rude, or just looking like you don't care much about this interview.

Be arrogant

Everyone loves passionate, dynamic and confident people, but recruiters shy away from arrogant people like the plague. It's good to show that you have the skills and the experience to handle all the duties of the job, but playing who's the best can never get you very far. The reverse should also be avoided. Never show the employer that you don't trust yourself. Shifty looks are to be avoided. Why should he trust you if you don't even believe in yourself. Prepare for the interview by reminding yourself of all of the qualities and skills that make you the right candidate for this role. You will come to the job interview much more relaxed.

Act like a robot

It's good to show the recruiter how you could become an asset to the company, but if you seem like you're doing an oral or in other words, if you're reciting your resume like a robot, you won't impress anyone. Don't speak too fast. Take the time to breathe. And above all, be natural!

Take control of the interview and tell your story

In an interview, do you sometimes end up feeling so comfortable that you tell anecdotes about your personal life to the recruiter that you didn't know 20 minutes ago? If you realize during the job interview that you've been monologizing for five minutes, shut up! The only times it's okay to talk about your personal life during a job interview is if the recruiter asks you a specific question. Just answer them and don't get lost in unnecessary talk that might hurt you.
