10 things not to tell your boss

10 things not to tell your boss

Do you have something negative to say to your boss? It is better to turn your tongue seven times in your mouth before speaking, otherwise a misplaced word could mar your opinion of you. Here are some expressions to keep to yourself:

1. You are wrong

Possibly the worst thing to say to your boss, and even more so if you say to him in public. There is no better thing to do if you want to be excluded from the most important meetings of the company.

2. I don't know

No one knows everything, but rather than phrase it that way, it's best to put yourself in a proactive mode and say, “I'm not sure. Let me check, I'll get back to you on that shortly. "

3. I have no solution

Likewise, by answering that you don't have a solution rather than trying to find one, you are sending the problem back to the boss's backyard. If a colleague of yours succeeds where you failed, they may eventually replace you on the short list of upcoming promotions.

4. I can't

Showing that you are not up to what is expected of you is never a good idea. If you are unfamiliar with a task, say you would like to be trained instead of dismissing it out of hand.

5. It's not part of my job description

In addition to advising you to read the last line of the description in question, which probably reads "perform any other related tasks", keep in mind that the more flexible you are, the more strings you will accumulate in your bow and the more indispensable you will be in the eyes of your boss

6. I will try

If that sounds like an acceptable answer to you, imagine your face if your boss told you, "I'm going to try to deposit your pay this week."

7. I did not succeed, but I did my best

Before you say it again, think twice: is failure the best you have to offer?

8. Can I leave earlier today, I have nothing more to do?

In addition to showing that you have no initiative, you may find yourself entrusted with more work in the future to fill your downtime.

9. I don’t have the head to work today

If you have personal problems that are not covered by your employment contract, such as the bereavement of a family member, it is better to take sick leave or at the end of the vacation than to demonstrate your unprofessionalism.

10. No

A single "no", without any explanation, is not really said. If you don't have time to complete a task, for example, be sure to offer alternatives. “No, but I could do it after this”, “No, but I could do it instead of this” or “No, but I could do it if so and so gives me a hand”. It will definitely be better than "no" at all.

As you can see, at the end of the day, there is little or nothing that is not said ... you just have to find the right way to say it.
