10 Interview Questions to Hire the Right Person

Are you in hiring mode? Asking the following questions during your interviews will help put you on the best chance of hiring the right person.

Why would you like to work for our company?

This is the perfect question for whether the candidate is looking for a job - any job - or if he wants to work specifically for you. This will show you how well they know your company and what they like about the way you do things and the products / services you offer to customers.

Why would you be perfect for this position?

This question will not only allow you to learn a little more about the candidate’s professional career, but you will also discover how he stands out from the crowd and what qualities make him the perfect person to perform the required tasks. If he has difficulty answering the question, it is probably because he is not the right person to fill the position.

Why do you want to change jobs?

You will more easily trust an employee who takes the time to explain what his old job taught him and who is looking for new challenges than someone who spends his time complaining about his former boss. This is the relevance of this question.

What professional goals would you like to achieve in 5 to 10 years?

Staff turnover and training costs are quite high. You will therefore want to know if the candidate sees himself evolving, over the years, within your company or if he intends rather to use it as a springboard to achieve other professional objectives.

If you could start your career over from scratch, what would you do?

A passionate employee will always give his 110%. So, if the candidate replies that he does not like his current job more than it should and that he would do something completely different if life allowed him, it is unfortunately not the employee that you need.

What motivates you to get up to go to work in the morning?

If the candidate seems only interested in money, he will probably leave as soon as one of your competitors offers him more. It is best to hire someone who is happy to go to work every day, because their work is rewarding and allows them to flourish.

What are your weaknesses and how do you plan to work on them?

Employers often ask candidates to interview them about their shortcomings and qualities. It’s interesting to push a little bit more to find out how the person is improving. If she's trying to change the subject or doesn't seem comfortable with working on her personality, you may want to move on to the next candidate.

How do you react to criticism?

If the candidate is defensive by the second or you ask this question, this is not a good sign. You want to hire someone who can adjust to your needs, not someone who will do as they please, even if their job doesn't suit you.

Describe your ideal boss.

Are you the kind of boss who doesn't like spending time complimenting? Are you pretty rigid and believe that work is not a place to make friends? A candidate who is constantly in need of recognition and who wants to be a good friend with colleagues may not be the type of person you want to hire.

What achievements are you most proud of?

This question will give you a good idea about the skills of your future employee. You will learn more about his vision of success. Are you looking for someone who is always ready to do more, who enjoys learning every day and who never says no to a new challenge? This is the opportunity to know if the person in front of you is this type of employee!
