Project Manager, Building Automation Systems

Our client, a global leader in technical services and energy efficiency, offers an extensive range of solutions in engineering, installation, and maintenance. With a strong presence across numerous countries, they support clients in various sectors, from industry to energy, committed to energy transition and sustainable development. Currently, our client is looking for a Project Manager specializing in Building Automation Systems for the construction sector.

Nature of position

Reporting to the Construction Director, you will be responsible for the full implementation of various projects, from contract award to final delivery and warranty period. Your key responsibilities will include planning, organizing, leading, and controlling each stage of the project. You will play a central role in defining the scope of work and developing efficient work methods to achieve set objectives while adhering to timelines and budgets. In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supervise and coordinate the human, material, and financial resources needed for project execution.
  • Ensure health and safety on-site (policies, rules, PPE, work techniques).
  • Review plans, analyze requirements, and define project scope after contract award.
  • Analyze needs, interpret project requirements, determine the scope of work, and prepare for project execution.
  • Ensure a thorough understanding of the principal contract’s terms and commercial conditions surrounding project completion.
  • Prepare budget requests for project owners.
  • Collaborate with various departments to structure and meet project objectives.
  • Award contracts to subcontractors (when required).
  • Document all key project milestones and prepare regular progress reports for management.
  • Release orders for all materials needed for the projects.
  • Organize weekly project coordination meetings with department heads.
  • Actively participate in meetings with clients, project owners, and/or consultants (e.g., site meetings).
  • Produce and/or coordinate cost estimates for additional work, change notices, and other opportunities (materials and labor).
  • Recommend corrective measures as necessary for any internal or external issues arising during project execution.
  • Serve as a resource for our finance department (progress billing, work advancement).
  • Identify and manage change orders, budget risks, and business opportunities.
  • Coordinate across disciplines or assist other project managers as needed.

Required qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering, or a college diploma (DEC) in Building Mechanics, Electrical Engineering, or relevant education (AEC, DEP, etc.).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in instrumentation and control.
  • Strong proficiency in building HVAC systems and in reading plans and specifications.
  • Fluency in spoken and written French, with an intermediate level of English to meet client needs in Canada and the United States.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites and/or client locations.
  • Proficient in computer tools, including the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Project management experience in a technical field related to HVAC (an asset).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced and demanding environment (an asset).
  • Skills in communication, negotiation, leadership, and problem-solving (an asset).
