IT Technician

Our client, a higher education and research institution well-established in the Quebec and Montreal regions, with additional regional establishments, is currently seeking an IT Technician.

Nature of position

Under the responsibility of the Director of the Information Technology Services, the individual will perform various technical tasks related to the installation, maintenance, use, and supply of computer equipment, as well as the day-to-day operations of their unit. They will ensure troubleshooting, support, setup, and maintenance of the computer fleet. In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Administering networks, telecommunications, and multimedia;
  • Managing access provisioning, data backup, and security;
  • Completing various forms and preparing reports, user guides, and documents related to their work;
  • Collaborating in the preparation and facilitation of training or information sessions on system use;
  • Providing explanations and advice on work methods and the use of various technologies, instruments, and equipment related to their field of activity;
  • Proposing and developing applications or IT tools using software or programming languages;
  • Providing customer support;
  • Collaborating and advising on equipment choices and work methods to meet needs and ensure the efficient and optimal use of equipment, networks, operating systems, software, etc.;
  • Handling, transporting, classifying, inventorying, and maintaining equipment and materials under their responsibility;
  • Participating in the installation and maintenance of operating systems, installing software, and updating certain programs;
  • Taking necessary measures to ensure the confidentiality and security of accessible information;
  • Performing any other tasks compatible with your duties.

Required qualification

  • College diploma (DEC) in Computer Science or Certificate of Collegial Studies (AEC) in Computer Science or equivalent education;
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience;
  • Ability to quickly adapt to technological changes and new work methods, while remaining flexible in the face of unforeseen events and emergencies;
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks effectively to meet objectives within given deadlines;
  • Ability to work independently while taking initiative to resolve technical issues;
  • Ability to evaluate and prioritize tasks based on their importance and urgency;
  • Ability to provide high-quality service, proactively resolve issues, and maintain positive communication with clients to ensure their satisfaction.
