Project manager

Our client, a company specializing in the design, manufacturing, and installation of industrial equipment primarily for the hydroelectricity, aluminum, mining, bridge, and pulp and paper sectors, is currently seeking a Project Manager.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the Operations Director, your main responsibility will be to effectively and efficiently integrate all aspects of the projects assigned to you, including engineering, procurement, manufacturing, logistics, construction, quality control, and administrative follow-up, in partnership with all stakeholders responsible for execution. Additionally, you will support your colleagues in their development and bring an external perspective to help elevate the company's project management process to the next level. In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Work closely with stakeholders from other departments to maximize the profitability of the projects under your management ;
  • Utilize the project management practices and tools recommended by the company ;
  • Manage project performance according to established indicators and take necessary actions to reduce discrepancies ;
  • Understand and master the commercial and technical requirements of contracts and project specifications ;
  • Manage projects in collaboration with project directors and stakeholders (clients, subcontractors, etc.) ;
  • Prepare the detailed work schedule and ensure its follow-up ;
  • Control and monitor project budgets/costs ;
  • Manage the procurement of materials in conjunction with other departments in compliance with the company’s purchasing policy ;
  • Manage contractual changes with the client ;
  • Produce and have the client approve the progress reports according to contractual terms ;
  • Promote and exemplify compliance with HSE rules for all projects under your responsibility ;
  • Collaborate with project directors to evaluate staff training needs and identify training activities to meet those needs ;
  • Provide inputs to support the project KPIs ;
  • May be required to travel occasionally and as needed for the project to various sites, suppliers, and clients, anywhere in Canada and sometimes elsewhere in the world;
  • Act as a mentor supporting developing project managers ;
  • Perform any other tasks compatible with your role.

Required qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or any other relevant field ;
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience ;
  • Advanced knowledge in project management ;
  • Knowledge of the hydroelectricity sector and/or aluminum industry and/or industrial mechanics and/or welded mechanical fabrication ;
  • Knowledge of planning software (MS Project, Primavera) is an asset ;
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English will be considered an asset ;
  • Strong interpersonal skills in a multidisciplinary context and under tight deadlines.
